ShoutBox File Types ShoutBox uses two different file types, rounds (*.sbr) and workouts (*.sbw). Rounds define the sounds that are going to be used during the workouts. Use the round editor to customize the sounds that are played and the actions that are "shouted" during the round. Workouts define the rounds that will be used and the length of time for the activity and rest periods. Use the workout editor to build the list of rounds that you want to use for your workout. Shuffling Actions One of the nice features of ShoutBox is the ability to set up random actions during the round. When you set up a round, you assign a weight factor to each action, letting you put more emphasis on some actions over others. This is referred to as the "frequency" of the action. The tables below illustrate how the shuffle feature works: Example 1 - Basic Karate Round (included with ShoutBox) For this round, the numbers refer to the number of punches in a combination.
In Example 1, the total of all the frequencies added together is 44. The probability that ShoutBox will call out a specific action is the frequency divided by the total of all the frequencies. In other words, during this round, you would expect that ShoutBox will call out "Roundhouse kick" about 18% of the time (8 divded by 44 = 0.1818...). Well... Maybe that's more kicking than you wanted to do... Example 2 is the same set of actions, with more emphasis on punching Example 2 (Karate round with more emphasis on punching)
In Example 2, the total of the frequencies is 49. Roundhouse Kick has a frequency of three. So, during the round, Roundhouse Kick will get called 6% of the time (3 divided by 49). Higher frequency means that the action will be called more often during the round. Combining Rounds into Workouts You can combine any number of rounds into a workout. For example, maybe you want to work on kicking as a warm up. Next you want to have a couple general heavy bag rounds then finish with a killer heavy bag / calistenics round. You can do that. Simply set up a round with only kicks, then set up a round with only sounds at the begiining and the end, then set up a round with calestenics mixed in as actions. Combine all these rounds in a single workout file and you're all ready to go. Recording Your Own Sounds for ShoutBox Workout Timer ShoutBox plays WAV files. Any wav files can be used with ShoutBox. To make your own, you can use the sound recorder that comes with Windows, which can be found under the Accessories --> Entertainment folder in the start menu. This recorder doesn't have the ability to cut and paste sounds, so its use is very limited. Another free option is Audacity. Audacity is a fantastic audio editing program and can be downloaded from this site --> http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ TIP: It's a good idea to make sure that your sound files don't have any silence at the beginning. That way they will play right away and you won't see a lag when using ShoutBox You can store your sound files anywhere you want, but if you want to keep them all together with the original sound files, you can find them in the C:\program files\shoutbox timer\sounds directory. |
